UFC 205 Results – Historic Fight Card at Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden played host to tonight’s epic and historic night of mixed martial arts action as the UFc holds the biggest fight card in organization history, UFC 205.   The event which had a main card on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass was the first for the organization since years of lobby to get the sport sanctioned and legally approved in the state of New York.UFC 205 Results - Historic Fight Card at Madison Square Garden

The fight to get MMA approved in the Empire State was long and tedious but UFC President Dana White said “I wouldn’t change a thing.”  The long build up helped to make UFC 205 all that more special according to the boss.

The fight card which featured three title bouts did not go without hiccup however.  Just days ago it was announced that Rashad Evans could not clear medical and his fight with Tim Kennedy was scrapped and moved to UFC 206 in Toronto.

Then yesterday at weigh-ins Kelvin Gastelum did not make weight and therefore his fight with Donald Cerrone has been cancelled and Cerrone also was booked for UFC 206 but against Matt Brown.

Mystic Mac Makes History

In the main event, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor became the first UFC fighter to hold titles simultaneously in two divisions as he knocked out lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez to claim the gold.

Draw

In the co-main event, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and challenger, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson was ruled a majority draw.  Woodley would retain the title.

Miesha Tate retires

WOW!!!!! Just earlier this year Miesha Tate captured the UFC women’s bantamweight title.  Tonight, she announced her retirement after being defeated via unanimous decision by Raquel Pennington.  Pennington put Tate in a heap of trouble throughout the contest and the former champion who won the belt by defeating Holly Holm in March, only to lose it to Amanda Nunes at UFC 200, would walk away from the sport.  Thank you for the memories Miesha Tate.

Khabib Nurmagomedov moves to 24-0

Russian born Khabib Nurmagomedov put on an absolute clinic against Michael Johnson, just demolishing him for almost an entire three rounds before submitting him via kimura.  Nurmagomedov moves to 24-0 and had some choice words for the UFC and Conor McGregor following the fights.

Lucky Luque?

Vicente Luque made quick work of Belal Muhammad, knocking him out in the first fight on FOX Sports 1. Luque said that he had to cut 30 pounds to make the weight after taking the fight on two and a half weeks notice after Lyman Good was removed from the card.

Jim Miller sets record

With a unanimous decision win over Thiago Alves, Jim Miller sets record and holds most wins in the UFC lightweight division at 17.

Liz Carmouche makes history once again

Liz Carmouche was the first woman ever to step inside the UFC octagon when she challenged Ronda Rousey for the UFC women’s bantamweight title in the first female fight the organization ever held. Tonight Carmouche was the first UFC fighter to get a win at Madison Square Garden when she defeated Katlyn Chookagian via split decision.
