Hicks, Gehrts set to clash in Valor Fights 38 main event

Valor Fights 38’s main event is going to be a great one, with former headliners Zack Hicks and Nick Gehrts returning to the marquee to clash in the final bout of the night on November 5 in Nashville, LIVE on FloCombat.

Although all eyes will be on these two fighters, both pugilists insist that throwing down in the card’s main event doesn’t add any pressure to the proceedings.

That being said, both southeast MMA stars are looking to rise to the occasion when they take center stage under the bright lights at Nashville Fairgrounds Arena.

“It’s just business as usual, really, but I believe this is the biggest fight of my career,” says Hicks, a 27-year-old product of Nashville who brings a 3-1 record to battle after a standout 15-4 amateur career.

“It’s cliche, sure, but this is the best I’ve ever been and I’m excited to show off all of my improvements and everything I’ve been working so hard on. A win on Fight Night puts me right up there among the top 145-pounders in the Southeast.”

But Standing in Hicks’ way is Gehrts, who’s every bit as hungry as Hicks to win big in the Valor Fights 38 main event and move a big step closer to a possible Valor Fights title shot or a life-changing call from the UFC or Bellator.

“He’s going to go to sleep. I’m going to catch him in a choke or grab an arm or a leg and he’s going to be tapping out in a hurry,” Gehrts, a 21-year-old Knoxville fighter, says with a laugh.

“I’m getting closer and closer to fighting on the international level. I just need a few more highlight-reel victories. I’ve got one coming up November 5 in Nashville.”

What does the more experienced Hicks have to say about that?

“He’s tough to finish and he’s unorthodox,” Hicks says, “but I’ve got the skills to beat him. My boxing is better than is, I have a wrestling advantage and my jiu-jitsu is underrated.

“I’m prepared for the unexpected and I hope he is too.”
