Akira Corassani Added To UFC Fight Night In Sweden

Alexander Gustafsson will not be the only fighter proudly representing his country on January 24 in Stockholm, Sweden. The UFC added another Swedish fighter to compete on the card: Akira Corassani.

Corassani who was born, Hamid Khorassani,  has lost his last two fights in the UFC, and in this business in such a high level, a third consecutive loss is usually enough reason for a pink slip. For Corassani, some pressure might be taken off as he gets to fight in his country now when he squares off against Sam Sicilia.

Sicilia (13-5, 3-4 in the UFC) lost his last bout in the UFC when he was submitted by Katsunori Kikuno back in September. Corassani (12-5, 3-2 in the UFC), started off with great expectations in the UFC by winning his first three fights in the organization. As Corassani started winning, the competition became more difficult, as he lost back-to-back to Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway in consecutive TKO losses.

Corassani is ecstatic to be fighting in his home country, saying, “This is truly amazing and a dream coming true”. Corassani continues, “As an old football player I don’t want to miss the chance to fight in a filled-up football arena.”  regarding the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, which holds a capacity between 30,000 to 33,000 spectators.

“I’m not focusing on my opponent,” Corassani said about Sicilia. “The most important thing is my own performance and what I do in the Octagon. But I have respect for (Sicilia), he’s dangerous”.
