After injuries plagued the Ultimate Fighter Finale on December 3 and the UFC Fight Night 102 card in Albany, New York on December 9, two newcomers get the call on short notice.

Earlier this year, Matthew Schnell (10-2) defeated Klayton Mai to become the Legacy Fighting Alliance interim flyweight champion.  Schnell, a cast member on the current season of the Ultimate Fighter ‘Tournament of Champions’ did not make it to the final round where he would get a shot against current UFC champion Demetrious Johnson.

Instead however, Schnell will get a second chance and steps in on short notice to fight Rob Font at the TUF 24 Finale. Alejandro Perez was originally slated to fight Font but was forced to withdraw.  Font is looking to get back in the win column after a loss to John Lineker in May. Font was scheduled to return to action at October’s UFC 204 in England, but Ian Entwistle was ruled medically ineligible at the card’s official weigh-ins, and the bout was scrapped.

Also, undefeated Cage Fury Fighting Championships featherweight Shane Burgos (7-0) gets the call to Albany to fight Tiago Dos Santos E Silva after Zubaira Tukhugov was pulled for a USADA violation. Tukhugov was pulled November 14.

MyMMANews spoke with Burgos just days ago before the fight announcement where the CFFC standout pleaded his case for a call to the UFC.  Glad to see things worked out for “Hurricane”.

The UFC has not officially announced either fight however sources close to both fighters have confirmed the signings to MyMMANews.com
