Bahrain to host World Championship of Amateur MMA

Manama, Feb. 1 (BNA): Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Honourary President of the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation, Founder of Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts Organization (KHK MMA), the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Association (BMMAA) will hold a press conference on Monday to announce the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) granting Bahrain the rights to host the fourth edition of the World Championship of Amateur MMA.

Kerrith Brown, IMMAF President and Densign White, IMMAF CEO are scheduled to speak at the conference about the decision to choose Bahrain to host this event.

Khalid Abdulaziz Al Khayyat, BMMAA President, expressed his joy with the IMMAF’s decision to grant Bahrain the rights to host the championships, which came due the wise leadership’s support to the Youth and Sports Sector, and the efforts of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, in translating the wise leadership’s directives, through plans and programmes, the sports movement in the Kingdom, which clearly reflected the strong presence of Bahraini MMA through various participations, international championships and achievement of honourable results, thereby boosting Bahrain’s position on the global sports map.

“HH Shaikh Khalid has played an active role in Bahrain gaining the trust of the International Federation, through His Highness’s efforts in promoting the culture of this sport in the region and the Asian continent,” Al Khayyat said. “This came through support to local sports under the banner #Strength_Determination_Challenge, with His Highness establishing many local tournaments and creating the perfect atmosphere for Bahraini youth to exercise this sport and also the formation of a team by His Highness to participate in various gatherings and championship to achieve more for Bahraini sport.”

Al Khayyat pointed out that HH Shaikh Khalid’s efforts also resulted in the launch of BRAVE Combat Federation that was born from Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts Organization (KHK MMA), and which received worldwide acclaim in international sports circles.
He explained the efforts of His Highness clearly had an impact in strengthening Bahrain’s international position and contributed to the Kingdom receiving the rights to host this global event.

Al Khayyat stressed that trust of the IMMAF in the Kingdom’s ability to organize this event, considered the first of its kind in the Middle East and Asia, adding Bahrain has all the elements to organize a successful event, after the brilliant successes in organizing various international championships and events.

Al Khayyat added: “The IMMAF has placed the Kingdom of Bahrain as part of the first countries to host this event and the decision to grant the Kingdom the rights to host the championship came after great belief and confidence in the ability of Bahrain to host this tournament, which will be held for the first time outside the American city Las Vegas, home to the first three editions of this international sports gathering.”

He added: “I take this opportunity to extend this invitation to all print, visual and audio media, as well as local and international social media to come and cover the press conference. Media outlets are a main partner to highlight and turn this event into a success.”
