Ben Saunders back on UFC roster for third time

Over the summer it seemed as if UFC welterweight Ben Saunders had been cut from the UFC after it was announced that he would be fighting Jakob Volkmann outside the organization.

Saunders had lost his last UFC fight to Patrick Cote but had not been put on another card so when the “Fight Night at the Island” bout with Volkmann came up, the internet went stir crazy thinking Saunders had been cut.

That couldn’t have been farther from the truth.  Saunders had some personal issues and fought out his UFC contract and the opportunity had passed.

“Fixing all of these aspects of my personal life and my career was not an easy task, but once I finally felt confident and had my mind right again, it was unfortunately too late,” Saunders said. “UFC had filled my spot on their limited roster, which I completely understood. Once again, they don’t know anything about any of this going on in my life, and I would imagine just considered my silence a form of resignation.”

Now after defeating Volkmann via a first round submission in just 17 seconds, Saunders is back with the UFC for a third time.

Saunders (now 20-7-1) posted the below photo stating “We back on that UFC roster. Let the games begin.”

Saunders who competed on the Ultimate Fighter Season 6 first competed in the UFC from 2007 until 2010. Then after about 10 fights with Bellator MMA, Saunders returned to the UFC in 2014 to record the organization’s first ever omoplata submission win in 2014. January of this year he had his last fight there with Cote.

No return fight has been announced as of yet.
