Brandon Moreno vs. Sergio Pettis flyweight contest headlines UFC’s return to Mexico

When the UFC returns to Mexico City, Mexico on August 5, a pair of flyweights will square off in the event’s headliner.

Rising Mexican MMA star Brandon Moreno (14-3) who is currently ranked seventh among active UFC 125-pounders will take on number six ranked, Sergio Pettis (15-2).

Pettis was supposed to fight last week in Dallas at UFC 211, however his fight with Henry Cejudo was cancelled just days before the event as Cejudo fell ill.

Moreno, a native of Tijuana has remained unbeaten for close to five years.  His last loss came in July 2012.  Since coming to the UFC Moreno has defeated Louis Smolka, Ryan Benoit and Dustin Ortiz.

Pettis is riding a three-fight win streak with victories over Chris Cariaso, Chris Kelades, and John Moraga.  His last loss was to Benoit.

The UFC Fight Night event, which airs live on FS1, marks the UFC’s fifth card in Mexico since UFC 180: Werdum vs. Hunt in November 2014. The event takes place at Arena Ciudad Del Mexico.
