Matt Brown overcomes Erick Silva, One Win Away from Title Shot

It was without question the greatest performance of Matt Brown’s professional career last night as he defeated Erick Silva in the main event of UFC Fight Night 40 before his hometown crowd in Cincinnati, OH.  Brown earned $100,000 for the Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night, and according to UFC President Dana White, Brown is just one win away from a title shot.

Brown was in trouble early on as he had to work through early onslaught and submission attempts from Silva.  But once Brown moved past the danger it was all him.  He owned the fight.  Brown worked in combinations and pushed his cardio like he had never done before.  As a fan you could say it has simply been an honor to watch this fighter grow and evolve from the Ultimate Fighter reality show to his current state as a top contender for a major title.

With Brown’s win he arrives at seven straight wins, tying Chris Weidman the longest active streak in the UFC.

Silva left the arena on a stretcher and was taken to the hospital but was medically cleared later in the night and will fly home today.
