Cerrone, Time Off

Cerrone: It’s Time To Take Some Time Off

Donald Cerrone has fought (and won) seven times in 14 months, a very busy year for “Cowboy”; one that deserves some time off. Following his third meeting against former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson, he said during the UFC press post fight press conference that it was time for a break.

Looking into the fight metrics of Cowboy and Henderson, Cerrone landed one takedown to Henderson’s zero. Henderson however, had 86 strikes to Cerrone’s 57. Many eyebrows were raised when Cerrone’s arm was raised as the victor.

Cerrone acknowledged that it was a hard fought win, and it was time to take a break and heal up. Cerrone said when he returns, he expects to face number two ranked lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov (22-0).

Nurmagomedove has been rehabiliting a surgically repaired ACL from an injury he suffered back in September 2014, when he was preparing to face Cowboy for UFC 178.

As for Cerrone’s plans on his break, he plans to spectate the Indy 500 and enjoy himself. Dana White was in agreement with Cerrone’s decision to “rest up” and take a break to heal before his next fight.
