The American Gangster, Chael Sonnen may currently be barred from competing in professional mixed martial arts but he will be making his return to the submission-only grappling platform known as Metamoris on May 9.

Sonnen, who competed at Metamoris IV and was submitted by Andre Galvao will return to Metamoris VI in Los Angeles, Calif., and will rematch Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral.

Sobral competed at Metamoris III last March, fighting to a draw against former UFC veteran Dean Lister.

The last time the two men met was UFC 55, 10 years ago in 2005 when Sobral submitted Sonnen via second-round arm-triangle choke.

In Metamoris, no points are given and each bout has a 20-minute time limit.  The only way to win a bout is to submit your opponent.  Each event streams on metamoris.com live via pay-per-view purchase.

Sobral vs Sonnen will not serve as the main event for the event.  An announcement regarding the main event for Metamoris VI is expected shortly.
