The “DFW (Dallas Fort-Worth) Beast Bash” took place Sunday, Aug. 17, in Ft. Worth Texas at VFW Post 8235.

I had the pleasure of volunteering for this event and what a humbling experience it was.20140817_194211-1

MMA legend Dan Severn is “The Beast” to all in our community of fans following the sport, but, after getting the opportunity to meet him and spending a full day learning of what really drives this MMA pioneer and 3 time UFC Champion, I walked away with a whole new respect from a different angle of view.

It is not about what you have done… it is about what you can do. Helping kids and veterans/families are a passion of his that truly define Dans’ ambassador role of giving back to the mma world and beyond.  Severn visited with sick and hospitalized military Veterans to help spread cheer.

This whole event was put together on short notice by Andy Curtiss, a dedicated and decorated Spec Ops brother and had to hand combat expert, and his wife.

All proceeds of the event went to support the 65K medical operation needs that terminally ill veteran family member and avid MMA fan Melissa Spradling needs to hopefully save her life. In the raffle, Melissa won the donated autographed book “The Last Round” by Randy Couture and it brought her to tears, being a huge fan.

Melissa’s husband told MyMMANews “She has pain every day but some days are better than others.”

Watching Dan throughout the day swapping stories and mingling with those in attendance of the events festivities of food, drinks, kids games, musical entertainment, arm wrestling, a female grappling competition and raffles was alot of fun amd many contributed to the events success.Dan Severn Pro Wrestler Visit 4

Seeing the heart “The Beast” has for giving to children, MMA fans and veterans/families in need was a pure honor.
There were “Kodak Moments” of children running up and giving him hugs outta the blue. Mr. Severn was more than happy in bringing smiles to those “Toddlers To Teens, Tomorrows Sports Fans Today.”Dan Severn Pro Wrestler Visit 2 (1)Dan Severn Pro Wrestler Visit 5

Fan friendliness so unconditional is rare in the professional sports world and this veteran salutes you Dan. You definitly have the heart of a champion.20140817_132926
