ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Mike Winkeljohn is one championship belt short.

Police say burglars broke into the nationally known mixed martial arts trainer’s home Monday and stole one of his belts, along with some climbing gear. Winkeljohn trains UFC world champion Holly Holm.

Police spokesman Simon Drobik said police will hold a news conference today to release the details of the case, including photographs of the suspects and the stolen belt.

Drobik said the belt taken from Winkeljohn’s Northeast Albuquerque home is from a win early in his athletic career.

“It’s super important to him,” Drobik said.

Winkeljohn was a world-champion kickboxer before he started training mixed martial arts fighters.
