Chris Camozzi: “I need to win a one round fight!”

In a matter of days, Chris Camozzi will vie for a final shot in the 2021 PFL Light Heavyweights season when he takes on Cezar Ferreira this Thursday, June 17.

After coming up on the short end of a decision in PFL’s season opener against Emiliano Sordi, Camozzi says he feels good. “It was a good warm up,” Camozzi says. “Obviously I hadn’t fought in a long time.”

Discussing his upcoming opponent, Camozzi says, “I really like it (the matchup) and I’m really familiar, he confidently explains. “His (Ferreira’s) name came across to me I think three times in the UFC,” Camozzi says. “It never worked out obviously. So, he’s somebody I’m real familiar with.” However, several of Scamozzi’s teammates have shared the cage with discussing his impending opponent. Explaining, “his name has been around the gym forever.” Continuing, “I kind of had a feeling we’d actually fight.”

“I think the best way for me to do that (win) is treat this like a one round fight,” explains Camozzi. “I need a first round finish. When I look at the point system, I need a first round finish. Anything else is almost a loss,” he bluntly states. “For me I have to put the pedal to the metal and goes balls to the wall first round,” He elaborates. “I can’t go in there worried about losing a 3 round fight. I need to win a 1 round fight.”

However, Camozzi isn’t quite convinced his opponent will be as willing to engage. “I think he will try to stall it out a little bit more…Play it safe,” Camozzi says. “I think he’ll try to wrestle a lot more.”
