Chris Camozzi Released By The UFC

The UFC released Chris Camozzi today after losing his fourth straight fight in the UFC. Camozzi (19-9) lost to a Rafael Natal in a close split decision in UFC Fight Night – Jacare vs. Mousasi II. This match had the implications of the loser being released, as Natal was facing a potential third-straight defeat, and in this sport, you cannot afford so many losses when you are in the top organization.

Camozzi leaves the UFC with a 7-6 record with the promotion. He is a young fighter (27 years old), so his career is far from over. The question is, where does Camozzi go next? Camozzi made a name for himself in the UFC, so many organizations will be chomping at the bit to sign the striking specialist and add depth to their middleweight division.

Camozzi could fit well in Bellator, giving newly crowned middleweight champion Brandon Halsey a challenge, or even mixing it up with Alexander Shlemenko or even a striking clinic against Melvin Manhoef. WSOF has interesting opponents Camozzi could fight as well. Former UFC contenders Yushin Okami and Jesse Taylor would be interesting matches. Camozzi is a tough fighter who has yet to be knocked out or lose by TKO, and with a few wins strung together, the UFC may see him back in the near future.
