UFC Hall of Famers, Chuck Liddell, Matt Hughes laid off by new owners WME-IMG

Former UFC champions Chuck Liddell and Matt Hughes have been retired from mixed martial arts for several years. When the two UFC Hall of Famer hung up their gloves they were offered positions within the company which helped keep them involved and active with bringing the organization and the sport more mainstream.

Hughes took on the position of vice president of athlete development and government relations while Liddell became the executive VP of business development.

Today, we have learned through MMA Fighting that Hughes and Liddell are among 15 staff members that have been laid off under new owners, WME-IMG.

“The UFC has been great to me,” Hughes told MMA Fighting Friday night. “Times change, and I understand the decision that was made. I will move on. My family and I are fine.

“I do love adventure, and who knows what’s next for me.”

The recent layoffs come a little over a month after the company fired approximately 70-80 employees, including some of its top executives.
