With Contract Expired, Phil Davis Is Now A Free Agent

“Mr. Wonderful” fought his last fight under his UFC contract when he lost a split decision to Ryan Bader a few weeks ago in Sweden. Davis (13-3) is the seventh ranked light heavyweight in the UFC rankings, which he hopes to use in his leverage when discussing a new fight contract with ZUFFA.

Davis has dropped his last two out of three fights, losing to Bader and number one contender Anthony Johnson. Davis has fought 12 times in the UFC, compiling a 9-3 record, with all three losses by decision. Even though his contract with the UFC is expired, Davis is still a restricted free agent under ZUFFA, meaning the UFC will have “first dibs” in making the former Penn State wrestling champion a new offer before any promotion could approach him.

At 30 years old, Davis still has plenty left in the tank to secure another long term contract with the UFC. Davis has expressed his desire to stay with the UFC, however the money has to be right. If the UFC does not to resign him, Davis could be one of the hottest free agents in the sport that could potentially go to another promotion an help boost the division.
