Cortney Casey fails drug test, UFC 211 win overturned in Texas

Today, Cortney Casey’s UFC 211 unanimous decision win over Jessica Aguilar was overturned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The commission changed the win to a No-Contest, and suspended Casey for 90 days.

As per the norm, drug tests were administered administered before the May 13 event. In this case, Casey was tested by the TDLR in Dallas and and the results found an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio.

Anything higher than a four to one ratio is flagged in Texas. Casey’s was 5.4:1.

According to MixedMartialArts.com, “Policy in Texas is to follow up with a test if the fighter discloses use of anything that could elevate testosterone levels artificially. As Casey did not disclose anything, there will apparently not be any further testing. She will be subject to the 90-day suspension, a fine which is typically $2,000, and her win will be changed.”

Marc Raimondi for MMA Fighting reached out to UFC vice president of health and performance Jeff Novitzky for comment.

“We have not been informed by USADA of anything regarding a potential anti-doping policy violation for Cortney Casey,” said Novitzky. “No positive tests, no suspicion of anything — now or in the past. USADA has not been in contact with us about anything at all related to that.”
