Dalcha Lungiambula vs Puna Soriano set for UFC on ABC 3

UFC on ABC 3 is shaping up to be quite an exciting card, as the UFC has added 14 bouts to the lineup.

UFC on ABC 3 is to go down on July 16, 2022, live from the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, and is to be headlined by top featherweight contenders in no. 2 ranked Brian Ortega and no. 3 ranked Yair Rodriguez.

Also going down on the card is a middleweight bout between vicious strikers Dalcha Lungiambula and Punahele Soriano, the matchup we’ll be talking about today.

Congolese talent Dalcha Lungiambula came to the UFC in June of 2019 with a record of 9-1, following four-straight title fights for EFC, which saw him capture the light-heavyweight, and then heavyweight championships prior to coming over.

Following a third-round TKO victory in his promotional debut, Lungiambula was then matched up with current no. 4 ranked light-heavyweight contender Magomed Ankalaev, who knocked him out, this one ending in round three as well.

Lungiambula then decided to drop down to 185 lbs, which suits him better, as he was an undersized light-heavyweight, and he’d defeat Markus Perez (UD) in his divisional debut before dropping his last two outings to Marc-Andre Barriault (UD) and Cody Brundage (guillotine choke).

Hawaiian native Puna Soriano came to the UFC not long after Lungiambula, in December of 2019, with a record of 6-0, KO’ing Oskar Piechota in round one of his promotional debut. He’d return 13 months later to do the same to Dusko Todorovic in an upset, before he also dropped his last two to Brendan Allen (UD) and Nick Maximov (SD).

Both of these talents are incredible athletes with absolutely vicious power.

Of Lungiambula’s eleven wins (11-4), five come via knockout with one submission and five decisions, while of Soriano’s eight wins (8-2), five come via knockout with two submissions and one decision.

Lungiambula stands 5’10” with a reach of 76”, and Soriano stands 5’11” with a reach of 72”.

Soriano is also an NCAA Division III All-American, boasting a brown belt in Judo, while Lungiambula is also ranked in Judo, holding a black belt in the art. Who do you see coming out of this bout at UFC on ABC 3 the victor?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
