Dana White: Jones Gets Immediate Title Shot Upon Return
Jon Jones has many dark days still ahead of him with recent incidents with the law and his alleged drug abuse. When the smoke clears, and Jones turns things around, the former UFC light heavyweight champion will have an immediate job opening again in the UFC, including a title shot as his first fight.
“If you look at the murderer’s row of the 205-pound division that (Jones) went through, and he just went through it like a hot knife through butter, I mean, he’s the man. So whenever he gets his stuff together, he’d come right back and fight for the title.”
Jones was set to defend his title against Anthony Johnson this Saturday at UFC 187, that came to an abrupt end when Jones ran into trouble with the law on April 27 where he allegedly ran a red light and caused a multiple motor vehicle accident, then fled the scene of the accident, only to return (allegedly), take his cash out of his car, and flee again.
With all of these incidents, Dana White had no choice but to indefinitely suspend one of the UFC’s biggest starts and arguably today’s best fight pound-for-pound fighter in MMA. Jon Jones’ title was stripped and the vacated title is now up for grabs this weekend between Anthony Johnson and Daniel Cormier.
