Open Letter to Dana White & Fertittas: Post UFC 194

It is now 72-hours post-mortem the three-day #UFCVegas extravaganza.  The mixed martial arts coma is over……. for now.frankie

This weekend we head into UFC on FOX Dos Anjos vs Cerrone.  But first, as fans first and foremost, we owe UFC President Dana White and Zuffa owners, Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta, a personal “Thank You,” for what was easily the most anticipated fight weekend in UFC history.

Not only were we treated to three amazing nights of action packed fights but the fighters put it all on the line.  Blood, sweat and tears were left inside the octagon on three consecutive nights, but more importantly the professionalism in which the events were carried out was unlike anything we have ever seen before.

Professionalism At Its Finest

Let’s start with the weigh-ins.  When was the last time each and every single fighter made weight on their first attempt, on not one card, or two, but three nights in a row? You would have thought with more than 30 fights booked that at least one fighter would need to drop his or her drawers while officials secured a towel around their body.  That never happened though.  The fighters ensured that they brought their “A” game on the biggest stage of them all.

On The Edge of Your Seat

Transition over to the fights.  What can be said that hasn’t already been said in the hundreds of interviews, press conferences, news articles and more?  From opening bell on each night to the three unbelievable main events, the UFC delivered.

Rose Namajunas shined in the biggest fight of her career, Frankie Edgar proved that he cannot be denied anymore, and Conor McGregor did the unthinkable in record time.

The goosebumps you felt as a fan were spine tingling.  The fights delivered and kept you wanting more.

The story lines continue to develop and grow.  Does Frankie get the title shot?  Does Conor move up in weight?  Does he vacate the title if he does so?  Does Weidman get the immediate rematch?

Each and every time someone asks Dana White about rematches before a fight takes place he says “We have to see how it plays out.  The fight hasn’t even happened yet.”  But he couldn’t be more accurate.  Who would have thunk the outcomes we saw?  As fans we can all have opinions on what we want to see happen or what we will think will happen before it does, but unless you are a mind reader you just have to see how it plays out.  It’s easy to Monday morning quarterback but the decisions made at the top usually do keep you want to keep coming back for more.  This weekend was no different.

Heartfelt Thanks

Everyone on the Zuffa staff brought it.  From UFC Fight Night 80, to the TUF 22 Finale, to UFC 194.  From the social media staff to the commentators, to the behind the scenes employees that will never be known, the entire team deserves a pat on the back.

Again, as a fan.

Thank you Team UFC.

See you this Saturday
