The internet went crazy today after UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.  Hours later, UFC President Dana White announced McGregor is pulled from the biggest card of the year, UFC 200.

White went on ESPN’s SportsCenter this afternoon and said McGregor refused to attend a press conference to promote UFC 200 and was subsequently pulled from the card.

“Obviously we still have a good relationship with Conor,” White said. “I respect Conor as a fighter and I like him as a person. But you can’t decide not to show up to these things. You have to do it.”

White said that McGregor’s reason for not attending is because he was in Iceland preparing for the July 9 rematch against Nate Diaz.   It is still unknown if McGregor is truly retired, however White states a new opponent for Diaz will be announced, along with another blockbuster bout.
