Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series – Week 3 Results

Week three of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series on UFC Fight Pass streams live from the UFC Gym in Las Vegas, Nevada, July 25 beginning at 8 p.m. EST.

Professional mixed martial artists compete before UFC President Dana White and matchmakers Mick Maynard and Sean Shelby in hopes for a UFC contract.  Each week five fights are aired but there is no guarantee that any will receive a contract, nor is there is a limit as to how many White will offer.

Would love to talk more about Kyle Roberson but he won his fight against Ryan Spann just seconds into the fight with Ryan Spann via knockout just 15 seconds into the fight.

Marine Corps veteran Kyle Stewart and TUF veteran Jason Jackson was proving to be a fight that could have served with the winner earning a contract.  Jackson was winning the first round with a takedown and in the grappling but Stewart was coming on strong with the striking.  Tough first round to score.  In the second round Stewart knocked Jackson down and the Jamaican fighter’s ankle popped out of place.  He continued to fight on but eventually he could not stand and the fight was stopped.

“Handz of Steel” Geoff Neal earned his eight professional win and his second in 11 days as he TKO’d Chase Waldon inside one round.

Daniel Jolly vs. Alonzo Menifield was an interesting light heavyweight matchup. These two matchedup similarly in not only size but also style.  What seemed to be going well and could have possibly ended with one of the two men earning a UFC contract ended in between the first and second round as Jolly said he could not see out of his eye.  Menifield gets the TKO win but will likely not earn a UFC contract.

XTreme Couture’s Dan Ige looked impressive throughout the first round of his fight with Luis Gomez.  Ige took Gomez down, and used crisp striking to stalk down and bloody his opponent throughout the first five minutes.  Ige might have controlled the first portion of the second round but it was Gomez who was able to secure a takedown and maintain a top position for more than a minute or so before the fight was stood back up.  Once stood up, Ige took a few swings, but the round closed with Gomez bringing the fight back down to the canvas.  Round two might go to Gomez.  The third round was where Ige tossed Gomez down to the canvas, locked on a kimura, which then transitioned to back control where he reigned down punches, took his opponent’s hips away with hooks in and sunk in a rear naked choke for the win.

Geoff Neal and Karl Roberson were awarded the UFC contracts, but UFC President Dana White said there were a few others on the card who he liked but they need a few more wins.
