Demetrious Johnson: Put stress on being the greatest fighter to ever walk this earth

The UFC flyweight champion of the world, ‘Mighty Mouse’ Demetrious Johnson recently spent close to an hour interacting with fans on a new social platform called Padlokt.

Padlokt provides users the opportunity to ask stars the questions they’ve longed to hear the answers to.  You submit your questions and when your opportunity comes up, you go face-to-face with the athlete or celebrity in a unique one on one environment.

I was recently asked to partake in the experiment with ‘Mighty Mouse’ where I asked him about his personal opinion about being labeled as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world, as well as whether or not Wilson Reis jumps right back in title contention.

What you are your personal thoughts on the pound-for-pound label?

“When you really think about the pound-for-pound list, they call it barbershop talk, you know what I mean? That’s something the fans see me as, or portray me as.  As for me, I just focus on staying healthy and being the world champion.  I think I take more pride in being the greatest flyweight ever to walk this earth because that can’t be taken away from me. I’m fighting, and I’ve proven that.  I’m fighting these people my size and you know that pound-for-pound list can change any given day.  There was one point where I was ranked the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and then next thing you know Jon Jones got reinstated and he blew right past me and it happened, nothing in my life changed.  I didn’t go to the gym feeling any doubt in myself, so I really try not to put any real stress on the whole number one spot.  I just put a lot more stress on being the greatest fighter to ever walk this earth.”

Will Wilson Reis fall back in line for next title shot?

“You know, I’m not sure.  I am not the matchmaker of the UFC.  I think you should direct that question to Sean Shelby or the new matchmaker, but for me I have no idea.  I’ve never been the type of person that picks and choose my opponents.  With the UFC, I think that’s up to them to make that choice.  Injuries happen in the sport of mixed martial arts.  Obviously they wanted me to do the Ultimate Fighter thing because they already started filming it and that’s the way it worked out.”
