DFW Beast Tour – Dan Severn fighting for the VFW

MyMMANews.com spoke with legendary mixed martial artist and UFC Hall of Famer, Dan ‘the Beast’ Severn earlier this week as he prepares to go out on the road on the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Beast Tour to raise money and awareness for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

VFW Post 8235 located at 5333 White Settlement road in Fort Worth will be hosting a Charity Fund Raiser Event sponsored by celebrities Dan “The Beast” Severn and Manu Bennett. Severn is a three-time Ultimate Fighting Champion and Hall of Fame inductee.

He is also a former WWE Superstar. He will be in the DFW area making a string of appearances from Plano to Fort Worth and is the one who came up with the idea of raising money and funds to support the local VFW.

Manu Bennett is the star of STARS hit series Spartacus and the WB series Arrow. Severn will be the event Chairman and will make appearances during that day to sign autographs and photo opportunities. Bennett who is unable to attend the event at short notice donated well over 600 dollars in cash value of merchandise via 8 x 10 inch autographed glossy photos, which will be raffled off during the event proceedings.

VFW Post 8235 is a non-profit 501(c) 19 organization. They are a service organization and are very involved in the community. Some of the activities they do are daily Meals on Wheels deliveries, they support homeless veterans in Tarrant County, and their website is the premier veteran’s employment and resource venue in the D/FW area. There you will find information about veteran job fairs and events. They also provide meeting rooms for various community organizations to convene and many other community oriented events.

Their VFW Post is active in the community and provides service in many areas such as: Five days a week participation in the Meals on Wheels program, in school programs such as the Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pen and Citizen Teacher of the Year, where they encourage young people to appreciate our country and the sacrifices that our veterans have made. They support veterans throughout the D/FW area with their website’s Veteran Resource and employment pages. They also provide clothing and other needed items to homeless veterans in the Fort Worth area. All these activities and many more or strictly accomplished through the effort of volunteers and funds form events and donations.

The event to be hosted on their behalf will include an All Men’s Arm Wrestling Challenge and an all-Woman Submission Grappling Championship. Competitors will register on the event website, where they can also garner sponsorships from potential sponsors that want to donate to the VFW on their behalf. All competitors must raise a minimum sponsorship of 100 dollars in order to compete. All Sponsorships go directly to the VFW. At the end of each competition for the men and women the champion will deliver the check of all sponsorships from all the competitors to the Post Commander and will be awarded a championship trophy. The competitor who raises the most sponsorships will also receive an award of achievement.

The event will be an opportunity for local businesses to set up tables, sell their goods and to network. There will be food, beverages, competitions, and games for all ages. There will be a DJ for the event as well. Sponsors wishing to support the event may go to the event web page to purchase an Event Sponsorship Package and for details about the event. The event is still looking for sponsors, competitors and volunteers to make this event possible. Dan Severn is available for pre event and pre-press conference interviews upon request.

Because of the short prep time for this event; organizers and the VFW are depending on a grass roots effort and public service announcements via broadcast and print to make this event happen. Recent interest by celebrities Dan Severn and Manu Bennett have been greatly appreciated and it is hoped that their support for this event will draw in further support and participation. The spokesman is Andy Curtiss. For Media and interested Sponsors, Vendors and volunteers, he can be reached at 682-841-2212 or unarmedcombat@knife-and-h2h-combat.com.
