Felice Herrig: I’m not young and beautiful enough for the UFC to want to promote me

After defeating Justin Kish on the main card at UFC Fight Night 112 in Oklahoma City last night, strawweight Felice Herrig had a very emotional conversation with media.

Herrig discusses why she feels the UFC is not giving her opponents she is asking for, and why she feels she is not getting respect of the push she deserves.

“I think that I had one bad performance and maybe the UFC, because I’m a veteran in this sport, you can’t look at me as this new up and comer and be like ‘this girl is the next big thing.’ I’ve already solidified myself in this sport.  I’ve been in it for 15 years.  I’ve fought some of the best.  I fought completely out of my weight class in so many fights,” Herrig said.

That’s when Herrig became very emotional and broke down in tears.

“I think that I’m just…. honestly, if you want to know the truth, it’s sometimes I feel like I’m not young and beautiful enough for the UFC to want to promote me. And it’s sad because I’ve really worked so hard to be here.  And it’s hard to see these people who have not been through what I’ve been through, who just got in the UFC at the right time, and they are getting all these opportunities.  I see how hard I worked to get here and it’s like it doesn’t matter.  I just feel like I’m not pretty enough and I’m not getting any younger.

Felice Herrig defeated Justine Kish via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 29-27)
