Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight finally scheduled for August 26

It may feel like it has taken forever but the superfight between boxing sensation Floyd Mayweather Jr., and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will finally happen.  ESPN reported the story when the news broke.

Mayweather Promotions has been approved by the Nevada Athletic Commission to hold an event on August 26 at either the T-Mobile Arena or MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Mayweather will return to the sport of boxing after retiring 23-months ago with a professional record of 49-0.  He seeks to obtain his 50th straight win with a victory over McGregor.

The fight will be broadcast on Showtime PPV.  It has been the talk of combat sports for more than two years.  McGregor does not have any professional boxing fights under his belt, however, he did hold two UFC titles simultaneously after defeating longtime featherweight champion Jose Aldo in December 2016, and then lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at Madison Square Garden at UFC 205 in November 2017.

Currently betting lines have Mayweather at -1100 and McGregor at +700.

Per UFC President Dana White, the fight will be scheduled for 12 rounds with 10 oz gloves and set for 154 pounds. McGregor stands to make $100M off the fight which means he is likely to never return to MMA.
