Gina Carano, GSP, Dave Bautista to appear in Kickboxer Remake

If you were wondering why former Strikeforce champion Gina Carano is still yet to land a deal with the UFC it is because Hollywood still has her number.

The former number one 145-pound female fighter has joined a cast of other notable fighters and actors for a remake of the hit 1989 film ‘Kickboxer.’

Carano just recently filmed a movie called ‘Bus 657’ alongside Robert DeNiro and also scored a part in the film ‘The Opium War’.  Now with ‘Kickboxer’ on the docket as well it seems Carano is keeping her focus on films and not fighting.

The Kickboxer film which helped launch Jean Claude Van Damme’s career will see the 54-year old actor return alongside former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (GSP) and former WWE champion and mixed martial artist David Bautista.  It is uncertain exactly what Van Damme’s role in the film will be.

Kickboxer follows Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi), a talented martial artist who travels to Thailand, where he must learn the secrets of the kickboxer to avenge his brother’s death at the hands of Tong Po (Bautista). Carano will play a fight promoter.

John Stockwell is directing the movie, which is shooting in New Orleans.

The film is produced by Ted Field of Radar Films, Dimitri Logothetis and Nick Celozzi. Mike Weber and Peter Meyer will executive produce along with Brian O’Shea, Nat McCormick and Jeff Bowler from The Exchange.

The Exchange is selling the movie worldwide.

No release date for the Kickboxer remake has been scheduled.
