Gray Maynard / UFC Agree to Eight-Fight Contract

When you lose three straight fights via TKO in the UFC, the last thing to expect is a return to the organization. Gray Maynard (11-4-1, 1 NC) did not get released, but rather a huge eight-fight deal with the organization. At one time, Maynard was 10-0-1 and fighting for the UFC lightweight title. Maynard would draw against then-lightweight champion Edgar, and from there it was downhill.

Maynard’s struggles would escalate following that draw, losing in a title rematch with Edgar via strikes, and losing four of his last five. All of Maynard’s four losses came via TKO strikes.

So what is different now?

Maynard has returned to Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas where it all started. Maynard would jump around camps as he moved, going to American Kickboxing Academy (AKA), and Power MMA. Maynard is still confident that he could get things together and climb back up to the top.

At 35 years old, this might be Maynard’s last “hurrah.” If “the Bully” is used three times per year, he might be fighting for the next three years. He knows that he will most likely not have the chance to fight a top ranked guy right away, but he is ready to climb the ladder again and earn another shot.
