Former Invicta Fighting Championship atomweight (105 pounds) champion Herica Tiburcio (9-4) looks to get back on the winning track when she faces Simona Soukupova at Invicta FC 20 next Friday night.

In order to get back to her winning ways the 23-year old Brazilian took some words of advice from UFC strawweight and one-time former opponent Claudia Gadelha, by taking her fight camp to Randolph, New Jersey where she is working with American Strikers Academy head coach, Don Cioffi.

Play clip below to see Tiburcio talk about training for Invicta FC 20, her opponent, weight, and her journey to the UFC.

Tiburcio captured the Invicta FC atomweight title by defeating then champion ‘Karate Hottie’ Michelle at Invicta FC 10 in December 2014.   The Brazilian then lost the title in her first defense via split decision to Ayaka Hamasaki, followed by a unanimous decision to Jinh Yu Frey.

While in the north east, Tiburcio is also training at Pure MMA in Rockaway, N.J., with Andy Main and brother Mike, as well as Carnicella MMA in Clifton.

Cioffi said this of coming together with Tiburcio for the challenge:

“Her boxing is what she came to us for.  Started working on that.  Very happy with her boxing.  She picks things up, she listens and uses them.  If she doesn’t like something, she won’t use it, but she lets you know.  Very honest, and the way her striking has come along this camp it’s enhanced the rest of her game; her ground game, she gets closer for the takedowns, and she has become a more complete fighter. I wouldn’t be surprised if she knocks out Simona but we’ll take a sub victory.  We just want to see her use her hands to set up that submission.”
