The opening bout on the televised UFC 188 preliminary bouts was a lightweight scrap between “Hollywood” Johnny Case and Francisco Trevino.

As Case stepped in to throw a punch, Trevino stuck out his hand and caught Case in the eye with a finger. Case screamed out and fell to the canvas with plenty of time still left in the first round.

Referee Big John McCarthy had a ring side physician come inside the octagon to check the fighter out after Case told McCarthy that he could not see.

It almost looked as if the fight was going to be called off but Case pushed on and came back to dominant the rest of the round and the fight winning a unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

The approach that Case took after the poke ultimately changed as the fighter stated post-fight that he still had trouble seeing.  He went from his Muay Thai stand up approach to more of a ground fight.

After the fight Case went to a nearby hospital in Mexico City to be evaluated.

Today “Hollywood” went to Facebook to give an update to friends and family stating “Just want to take the time to thank all of you who have shown support this past weekend. My eye checked out ok and no tear or detachment. Just a nasty scratch on my cornea. I’ll be back kicking ass in a few weeks!”
