Injury Update: Matt Lozano – Broken arm, 20 stitches, after Bellator 186 loss

Matt Lozano will sit on the shelf for several months after sustaining a broken arm in his Bellator 186 preliminary bout against Dominic Mazzotta, November 3.

The fight was called off by a cageside physician about halfway through the first round.  Lozano felt his arm snap from a leg kick less than 10 seconds into the fight.

Moments later “SMG” was on his back with Mazzotta throwing that strikes that would split him open in two area, causing the Lancaster, Pennsylvania native to bleed all over the cage canvas.

After being taken to a nearby medical facility an x-ray proved that Lozano had sustained a broken arm.  It was the same arm that he broke back at World Series of Fighting’s WSOF 13 in 2014.  He would also receive 20 stitches in his head.

Lozano posted on social media this morning:

“Team SMG appreciates all the support. The end results were def. Not what we wanted but it is what it is.
Caught a kick early in the fight to the left arm…again. Felt a break, threw off my game plan. Ill say that I’m going to retire…but that never happens.Ill see you when I see you. Thank you fans, sponsors, family and Dr.Becker, who has to fix my arm AGAIN haha, hes the man. Love you guys.”

Lozano later posted a photo with UFC Hall of Famer Royce Gracie who attended last night’s Bellator MMA card at Penn State University.

With the loss Lozano moves to 8-6 as a professional mixed martial artist.

Get well soon SMG.
