Jake Shields released from UFC

He was once the challenger to the UFC welterweight title and prior to that he was the hottest free agent on the market after capturing titles in Strikeforce and Elite XC, however Jake Shields was cut from the UFC roster this morning.

While Shields would not comment on the matter, his manager Lex McMahon has confirmed that Shields is no longer employed by the UFC.

Shields dropped a unanimous decision to Hector Lombard last month but prior to that he had pulled off four consecutive wins, before one of the wins was overturned and ruled a no-contest due to Shields testing positive for a banned substance.

While it is unusual for the UFC to release a fighter after just one loss Shields has often been at the center of lackluster performances and are often focuses of criticism.
