UFC Veteran Josh Hendricks still in intensive care two weeks after house fire

40-year old retired mixed martial artist Josh Hendricks (19-11-1) is recovering in an intensive care unit after a house fire roughly two weeks ago.

Manager Bill Murhpy, of MVC Sports Management, made an initial post on social media on February 4, stating:

It would be much appreciated if you all could say a prayer for my good friend Josh Hendricks. Josh was in a house fire last week and is currently in the ICU unable to breath on his own. He’s got a tough road ahead but if anyone can pull through it’s this guy.

On February 5, Allison Sisil Hendricks provided an update stating:

Thank you everyone for all of the kind words and prayers. We are starting to see small but steady improvements. We have been told that this type of recovery just takes time. He is unable to have visitors at this time but I am sure once he is able his family will let everyone know. If you know Josh, you know that if there is anyone that can beat this it’s him. Thank you so very much for all of the support. It means so much to myself and his family.

Today, February 9 she provided another update stating:

I just wanted to let everyone know that all of the prayers are working. Josh is doing much better. Yesterday was a big step. They were able two use another breathing device which is allowing him to breathe more on his own. And they have been able to cut back on some of his sedation so he has been able to communicate with head nods and eye blinks and hand gestures. He still has a long road so please continue the prayers. Thank you so much for everyone’s concern and support.

Hendricks last competed in May 2014 at CES MMA.

His lone UFC fight came at UFC 91 against Gabriel Gonzaga in 2008.
