After falling short in his 135-pound title fight against Andre Soukhamthath, Nordby got back to his winning ways with an impressive victory over Brandon Seyler in August.

With Greg Rebello now helping to guide his blossoming career, the outspoken 23-year-old Cumberland, R.I., product has his sights set on another shot at the CES MMA World Bantamweight Championship in 2017.

Standing in the seven-time CES MMA vet’s way of another crack at gold is Garcia, who handed Sityodtong standout Rico DiSciullo the lone loss of his career earlier this year.

“I’m not worried about my opponent,” offered the brash Rhode Island fighter. “I saw his victory over Rico, and I’m not impressed by what I saw or what he brings to the table. He has no chance of hanging with me on the ground — but I plan on keeping it standing with him and knocking him out on the feet.”

Garcia, who’s unbeaten in his last four bouts, is quick to praise aspects of Nordby’s game, but the proud Windy City product isn’t phased by a little trash talk.

“I know Kody is a tough wrestler and he’s an aggressive fighter, but I’ve won many fights on the ground, if that’s what it comes to,” said Garcia, 22. “He has no Brazilian jiu-jitsu and he doesn’t have any technique as a striker. This will be fun.”
