A Hawai‘i native and Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight contender has been named Honorary Captain for the the Rainbow Warrior football team as they compete against Colorado Thursday, according to a UH Athletics report.

Wai‘anae native, Max Holloway, is the second UFC competitor to serve as honorary captain, following UFC Hall of Famer and Big Island resident BJ Penn.

According to the report, “Holloway will address the team in the locker room and accompany the UH game captains to midfield for the coin toss.”

Kick-off for the ‘Bows’ season opener is 7:04 p.m. at Aloha Stadium on Sept. 3.

Holloway is currently ranked No. 5 in the UFC featherweight division. He has a seven-fight winning streak and has finished six out of those seven fights via submission, knockout and technical knockout.
