MMA Platinum Gloves 10: Fiore Defends LW Title And DeRiso Fights for MW Belt

St. James, Long Island – Saturday night the Sports Arena will fill up with fans once more as MMA Platinum Gloves presents their tenth installment, “Summer Series”. Ten bouts will take place including two title fights, as the main event between champion, Nick Fiore and contender Ryan Castro, fight for the lightweight title.  Vinny DeRiso and Paul Turner will battle in the co-main event for the middleweight strap. Fights start at 7 p.m. EST.

The President of Long Island’s premier MMA organization, Nic Canobbio, announced late June the new sanctioning body for MMA Platinum Gloves. MPG 10 will be the first event with the U.S.M.T.A./M.B.L sanctioning the Long Island amateur mixed martial arts organization. U.S.M.T.A./M.B.L is The United States Muay Thai Association/Muay Boran League. The U.S.M.T.A. /M.B.L. are also the sanctioning body of Lions Roar Promotions, Aggressive Combat Championship, Victory Combat Sports, and now MMA Platinum Gloves. “The Muay Boran League is proud to be sanctioning a first-class organization and Long Island’s premier amateur MMA organization, MMA Platinum Gloves,” a representative of the M.B.L told My MMA News.

MMA Platinum Gloves came to this decision when they decided that it was time to bring their organization to the next level. The Muay Boran League requires all judges and referees to attend their six-hour training course. In addition to their training course, shadowing of a few events is required before stepping inside the cage to referee an event.

The benefits of this will be more knowledgeable scoring by judges, which will lead to more accurate decisions. Referees will understand striking, grappling, and submissions. They will know when to stand up fighters that aren’t providing any advancement. They will have a better understanding of when a fighter is no longer capable of continuing inside the cage. The Muay Boran League stresses the importance of fighter safety and by providing educated individual’s to sanction the event, the risk level decreases.

In the main event of “Summer Series”, the lightweight champion, Nick Fiore, will defend his crown against Ryan Castro. The champion fights out of Bellmore Kickboxing and holds a record of 7-0 as an amateur fighter. He puts his belt on-the-line against a worthy adversary in Ryan Castro, whom fights out of East West MMA.

Fiore displayed his excellent striking skills via talented footwork in his last appearance at MMA Platinum Gloves 9, when he successfully defended his 155-pound title against a highly skilled grappler in James Gonzalez of Serra-BJJ. Fiore has a wrestling background in addition to his accurate striking. A victory inside the cage Saturday night could very well be the last amateur fight for Fiore before turning professional.

Castro‘s opponent didn’t show up to his last bout and anyone that has talked to him knows he is itching to step into the cage. Castro is a well-rounded fighter that isn’t worried where the leads him. If it goes to the ground he is comfortable and excited to stand and trade punches as well. Fans can expect a great title fight between two of Long Island’s toughest lightweight fighters.

The Co-main event is a middleweight matchup that includes Vinny DeRiso and Paul Turner. DeRiso is also a Bellmore kickboxing fighter that looks to capture a title.
