MMA Platinum Gloves 6: Long Island MMA – Ochart and Fiore Victorious In Title Bouts

ST. JAMES, NY- MMA Platinum Gloves presented MMA on Long Island, delivering another outstanding show for their fans. All nine amateur bouts displayed young talented fighters from the tri-state area. Two championship belts were on the line as Danny Ochart and Richard Pabon battled for the Bantamweight title and Rich Appenzeller fought Nick Fiore in the co-main event for the lightweight belt. The Sports Arena hosted Live MMA on Long Island once again, packing nearly 850 fans in attendance.

Danny Ochart of Bellmore Kickboxing battled Richard Pabon of Golden MMA for the Bantamweight championship. The two 135-pounders went toe-to-toe nearly three rounds before ending in a submission. Both fighters came out of the gates aggressive working in and out of the clinch. Ochart worked the body with knees as Pabon pressured him against the fence in the first round. Pabon earned an eventual takedown in the first rounds, but unable to really accomplish much after taking his foe to the canvas.

In round two, Pabon avoided the hands of Ochart by pulling him to the ground quickly. After an immediate reversal by Ochart, the Bellmore Kickboxing fighter landed several successful strikes from the top. Ochart worked from side control sliding into a crucifix, where he drilled his opponents face. Shortly after striking the body with several fists and knees, an uneducated break in the fight by the referee brought the fighters to their feet. Ochart caught Pabon with a couple of hooks shortly before the ring of the bell ended the second round.

Round three started off with Pabon coming out of the gates swinging and Ochart backing up before he scooped up a leg lifting and slamming Pabon into side control. He quickly transitioned into full-mount hammering away on the face of Pabon. Pabon scrambled off his back, but exposed himself to Ochart whom sunk in a Rear Naked Choke that forced Pabon to tap.

Ochart won the bantamweight belt after submitting Pabon in the third round at 2:00 via Rear Naked Choke in the main event.

The co-main event between Rich Appenzeller and Nick Fiore only lasted a round due to a brutal cut over the left eye of Appenzeller. Fiore caught him early on the eye before the two fighters worked in the clinch. Appenzeller hit a heavy hip toss and landed a couple of shots. After a quick look at the eye by the doctor, the action resumed. Both fighters scrambled around the canvas. The round ended with Fiore in guard landing strong strikes to Appenzeller’s grill. Appenzeller worked to defend the attack using submission attempts. The bell rung ending the round and ultimately the fight due to doctor stoppage caused by the gash over Appenzeller’s eye.

Nick Fiore opened Appenzeller’s eye forcing the fight to come to an end earning the victory and lightweight amateur MMA Platinum Gloves title.
Another notable fight which warranted Fight of the Night honors was between light heavyweights Henry Mills and John Gotti. The two men battled in a slugfest that engulfed the crowd. For three rounds, Mills (Vamos BJJ) and Gotti (Bellmore Kickboxing) pounded on each other with haymakers that were launched from the moon. The fight was so back and forth in each round that it was forced to the score cards rendering a split decision. John Gotti of Bellmore Kickboxing won his debut MMA fight over Mills (1-0) of Vamous BJJ by split decision with a score of 29-27, 29-27, 27-29.

“I’m very happy with the turn out, everything. This is great! I love it.” Said the Organization’s President, Nic Canobbio, expressing his pleasure with the bouts of his September 6 show. Canobbio is interested in increasing the amount of gyms and fighters to MMA Platinum Gloves to the organization. The president has a vision for the future of possibly having a “Long Island vs. the City” event. The next event is November 1, 2014, at The Sports Arena in St. James, Long Island.

Long Island UFC fighters Ryan LaFlare, Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez and Gianpiero Villante were in attendance watching upon the young amateur fighters.
