The two gold medals earned by Ahmadi in Athens push his Veterans World Championships gold medal count to 12, the most of any American. In addition, he became only the sixth U.S. wrestler to earn a Veterans World title in Greco-Roman.

Ahmadi of Coventry, Connecticut, scored a fall over Viktor Chipkov of Russia and a 5-0 decision over Abolghasem Farahmand of Iran to claim the Greco-Roman title at 63 kg in Veterans Div. G.

He also went 3-0 in a four-man round robin to claim the freestyle crown at the same weight.

“I was excited but seeing the excitement of my teammates was even more thrilling. Making history in the birthplace of wrestling made this trip to Athens even more special. I look forward to the next four years with these guys,” said Ahmadi.
