Nate Diaz says “it’s time” for the UFC to send a contract for him to face Michael Chandler

UFC superstar Nate Diaz says it’s time for the UFC to take him off ice and send a contract for him to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 277.

UFC superstar Nate Diaz is ready to fight, and he’s found just the perfect opponent that he wants to face following this past weekend’s UFC 274 event. After Michael Chandler’s knockout of Tony Ferguson at UFC 274, a knockout that is certainly atop the list for Knockout Of the Year, Diaz took to Twitter and called for the UFC to send a contract so he can face “Iron” Michael Chandler.

The last time Nate Diaz competed inside the Octagon was back in June of last year at UFC 263 when he lost by unanimous decision to welterweight contender Leon Edwards, although Diaz had a late moment in the fight where he nearly shocked Edwards. Currently, Diaz is only under contract for one final fight with the UFC and while he’s got other opponents in mind for himself, UFC President Dana White recently said that he’d be interested in making a fight between Diaz and Khamzat Chimaev.

On Monday, Diaz took to Twitter and said that the UFC has kept him on ice for a year, and he’s ready to fight against Michael Chandler, who also said he is willing to fight the UFC superstar.

Before calling for the fight against Chandler, Diaz tweeted out that he was ready for a fight at 170-pounds on July 30th, which is the scheduled date for UFC 277 this summer. After Diaz’s initial post, Chandler responded telling the Stockton native to “shut up and stop complaining”.

There are always plenty of options when discussing opponents for Nate Diaz given his popularity and fighting style. From Michael Chandler and former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier, to his long-time rival, Conor McGregor as the two have a split series between them and many calls for a trilogy fight among two of the most popular fighters in UFC history.

With one of the most memorable knockouts in promotion history and an always entertaining fight style, Michael Chandler may have just sparked enough interest between fans and Nate Diaz himself, to put together a fight at 170 pounds, if all sides can come to an agreement, and if it’s a fight the UFC wants to make. If it’s not Diaz, Chandler set himself up nicely for a big fight next on his schedule with a memorable post-fight interview following his knockout of Tony Ferguson at UFC 274.
