Michael Alfaro (0-1) as a professional mixed martial artist was killed while working on a utility pole last week was an accomplished martial arts fighter and dedicated father to three sons.

Alfaro, 31, was found unresponsive while working in the area of Appleton Road and Thomas Road. PSE&G workers called to investigate an outage helped police get him off the pole, but he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Authorities have since ruled that his death was an accidental electrocution.

The news came was jarring for Alfaro’s family, especially his wife of four years, Heidi. The couple were expecting a fourth child in August, who would join their three sons, ages 3, 9 and 13.

Though the two older boys were from Heidi’s previous relationship, they shared a father-son bond with Alfaro, according to his brother-in-law, Rich Cuthbertson.
