Ochart defends title against Moore at MMA Platinum Gloves 9: “Nobody on the amateur level is on my level”

Saturday night, Danny Ochart will enter the MMA Platinum Gloves cage to defend his amateur bantamweight title against number one contender, Shaquan Moore. The bantamweight title fight between champion Ochart and challenger Moore is set as the co-main event at MMA Platinum Gloves 9 at The Sports Arena in St. James on Long Island, New York.

Ochart currently holds an undefeated record of 3-0 entering his title defense against Moore of East West MMA. The champion trains out of Long Island MMA, home to UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships) fighters Ryan LaFlare, Dennis Bermudez, Chris Wade, and Bellator’s bantamweight champion Marcos Galvo.

Ochart made the switch to Long Island MMA from Bellmore Kickboxing, whom trains light heavyweight Gian Villante, roughly six months ago. He is a highly skilled kickboxer and overly joyed with his transition to Long Island MMA and mentioned the abundance of training partners his size with professional experience. As a direct result of training at Long Island MMA, he feels his wrestling and grappling has drastically improved since joining the East Farmingdale located gym.

Since participating in karate and kickboxing from the age of 16, Ochart made the transition over to mixed martial arts and his passion of the sport grows every day. His competitive nature forces him to continually show up at the gym each day to grow as a fighter. Every morning he wakes up and runs a few miles to keep his cardio up. Six days a week he trains with mitts and grapples with his coaches to absorb all the information he can.

Ochart, 25, spoke like a professional to My MMA News discussing the importance of a full night’s rest he requires being at the top of his game. His dedication is shown by this way the amateur fighter lives his life.

“I train like a professional; I feel that I should act like a professional,” said Ochart. The 135-pound champion doesn’t consume alcohol, smoke, or place himself in  some of the compromising situations many young fighters find themselves in. Ochart has even grasped the understanding of cutting weight after only his third amateur fight. He told us about his strict diet of chicken, and vegetables, which allows him to control his weight throughout training camp.

333;”>“I like to fight, I really, really like to fight,” said Ochart, when asked why he steps inside a cage instead of working a traditional 9 to 5 job. Ochart treats training as his job. He mentioned his obligation to showing up at practice every day. To help off-set costs of training, the MMA Platinum Gloves bantamweight champion takes random construction jobs after a training camp to afford the next couple months of training. He has also began seeking out sponsorships to help with the financial stresses training full-time creates. A few of sponsors for his upcoming fight are JC Auto, Shunato Karate out of Baldwin, Better Targets, and Long Island MMA.

While sitting on a bench next to the cage at Long Island MMA, the Baldwin native, Ochart, explained how he has learned to become a better fighter since entering the cage three fights ago. He acknowledged that his strikes are no longer wild and now are controlled accurate decisions. His pace inside the cage has also become noticeably more consistent.

“Since I’ve been here (Long Island MMA), my cardio has gotten so much better, my striking skills have gotten so much better, and my ground has gotten so much better.” said Ochart. The excitement of getting back inside the cage to defend his title was clear by the look on his face. A look of confidence is supported by one of the top MMA gyms in the Tri-state area. “I can’t wait to compete now and see where this gym has taken me, because I feel like this gym has taken me to the next level.”

“I’m super confident that nobody on the amateur level is on my level,” said Ochart. The Long Island MMA fighter is embarking on a mission to finish all of his fights on the amateur level. He has a goal to fight for the Aggressive Combat Sports 135-pound title, as well as the New York Fight Exchange bantamweight title before turning pro.

Before he can fight for another title he must defend his bantamweight belt from the MMA Platinum Gloves No.1 contender Shaquan Moore. Moore enters the fight against the champ with a 6-1 record. Fans can expect an exciting fight between these two fighters. According to MMA Platinum Gloves Pound-4-Pound rankings, Ochart is ranked No.2 on the list and Moore is ranked No. 5.

Ochart has a warrior’s heart that doesn’t allow his opponents to win positions without earning it. He’s a highly skilled kickboxer with sharp accurate technique. His desire to win is shown inside the cage when he enters a scramble with a foe. The 135-pound MMA Platinum Gloves champion is a humble individual that lets his actions do the talking. Ochart will be prepared to fend off all those who wish to challenge him for his hardware. Be ready for an exiting co-main event and don’t be surprised if Ochart earns a victory by finishing his opponent.

Tickets can be purchased by visiting MMA Platinum Gloves website. Doors open at 6 p.m. and fights are expected to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday night at The Sports Arena in St. James on long Island.
