Alistair Overeem’s Last Stand – A Skyscraper must fall

Dutch heavyweights Alistair Overeem (37-14) and Stefan ‘Skyscraper’ Struve (25-6) are both looking for a win to get them back on the right path, but it may be Overeem who is out in deeper waters.

While Struve suffered a loss in his last outing and has endured significant health problems that have prevented him from competing in the octagon, Overeem has gone 1-3 in his last four fights.

The heavy-handed Overeem most recently lost to Ben Rothwell via TKO on Sep. 5

Before the loss he had a unanimous decision win over Frank Mir and back-to-back losses to Travis Browne and Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva.

After his loss to Rothwell many speculated that Overeem would be cut from the UFC roster however UFC President Dana White said “he has one more fight.”

Struve’s last fight came on March 3, 2013 and was a TKO loss to Mark Hunt.  Since then he has been battling problems with his ticker.  He was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and a leaking aortic valve.  Struve was finally cleared to fight and had to be pulled from his scheduled UFC 175 fight the night of the event after fainting.

The Overeem – Struve bout will take place at Fight Night Phoenix on Dec. 13 – the UFC’s first trip to Arizona.
