Rafael Dos Anjos injured, out of UFC 196 headliner against Conor McGregor

According to multiple sources, UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos suffered a broken foot late last week, forcing him to pull out of the headlining UFC 196 title defense against current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

With Rafael Dos Anjos injured, the UFC is currently working on finding a replacement to fight McGregor on less than two weeks’ notice.

Holly Holm vs. Miesha Tate for the UFC women’s bantamweight title is currently the co-main event for the March 5 card, which is set for Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.

This is the second time McGregor was to challenge for a title when the champion withdrew due to injury. Last summer it was against Jose Aldo. Chad Mendes stepped up against McGregor short notice for the UFC featherweight interim title.

McGregor won then contest and then later faced Aldo in December, knocking him out in 13 seconds and claiming the undisputed 145-pound strap.
