Renzo Gracie sentenced to community service for assault

Legendary mixed martial artist Renzo Gracie was sentenced to 10 to 15 days of community service along with cousin Igor, Leonardo Leite, Rafael Barbosa and Carvalho Da Costaare for a misdemeanor assault charge.

Leonardo DaCosta and Gregor Rangel pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in exchange for 1 to 3 days of community service.

Last May the men showed up at a club in New York when bouncer Craig Molesphini had turned away two of their friends.

Then a scuffle broke out with the bouncers and one reportedly was sent to an area hospital with a broken arm.  According to witnesses, Gracie at one point had the doorman in full mount, while another one of his group hit a different bouncer with a construction cone.

Gracie and company spent two days in jail.  Andre Gusmao, the first fighter to face Jon Jones in the UFC was also arrested by the police even though the district attorney admitted he didn’t participate in the scuffle.

The verdict was handed down Thursday, March 5, 2015.  Gracie was originally facing a maximum 15-year sentence.
