Rob Font discusses mental side of training, KO win over Moraes, thoughts on Kattar/Holloway

After a year-long layoff from competition rehabbing his ACL, Rob Font dismantled Marlon Moraes in a matter of minutes just a few weeks ago at UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Neal. The dominant win was just what the bantamweight needed, as it catapulted him into the top 5 of the division.

Keeping Team Cartel’s momentum rolling, Font joined fellow teammate, Calvin Kattar on the trip to UFC’s Fight Island (Yas Island) in Abu Dhabi, help with Kattar’s final preparations for his main event bout against Max Holloway this weekend.

Throughout Font’s year of rehab, he emphasizes how he “made rehab my new martial arts and my new sport.” Returning in such impressive fashion over the former title contender, Moraes puts him in an excellent position to potentially fight for a title by the end of the year or next. Font foresees UFC gold in his and teammate Calvin Katter’s near future.

“He’s (Katter) in a state where he’s meant for this. He thinks he’s meant for this right now!,” says Font. “Meant for this moment!”

Always evolving, Font discusses improving his mental approach to fighting while he was on the sidelines recovering. “Nah, man, I’m good. I don’t need to do that,” the bantamweight previously thought. However, after looking into some mental coaching and putting in the reps reading the books, his view on training the mind has adjusted. “Mentally is the hard part. You don’t see the growth,” he says. “You can see the muscle growth. You can see when you lose weight. But you can’t see the growth with the mental side. That’s all on you and you gotta know that you’re gaining growth and getting better mentally!” Making it abundantly clear, “If you’re not doing that, there’s gonna be a kid that is and it’s gonna show!”

Tune in as Rob Font joins MyMMANews to recap his recent win over Marlon Moraes, mental training, his fight future and so much more!
