Pantene is now partnering with one of the toughest women in the world, Ronda Rousey, mixed martial artist, judoka, actress and bestselling author.  Rousey returns to the UFC to headline UFC 207, Dec. 30 from Las Vegas, Nevada.  She challenges current champion Amanda Nunes for the UFC women’s bantamweight title.

According to a release from Pantene:

“Together, Pantene and Rousey will prove that strong is what beautiful women are made of, because strong is always beautiful.

“I’m fully aware that I might not be the first person people think of to collaborate with a beauty brand,” said Rousey. “I’ve been called ‘Miss Man’ and ‘savage’ because of my physique, but to me, strength isn’t only about having muscles. It’s about having heart and finding inner confidence, so I’m honored that Pantene asked me to be part of their new campaign that encourages women to break gender barriers, break the glass ceiling and never settle.”

“We’re proud to announce Ronda Rousey as the newest member of the Pantene family,” says Jodi Allen, Vice President of Hair Care for North America at Procter & Gamble. “Ronda is the future of strong women everywhere – women rising above society’s expectations and proving once and for all that strong is always beautiful.”

The new campaign features Rousey articulating the phrase “Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Strong” – a play on words from Pantene’s iconic “Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Beautiful” campaign from the 1980s – to highlight the step-change that a woman’s power comes from her strength, not her beauty. In its newest chapter of the ‘Strong Is Beautiful’ story, Rousey will appear in TV, digital and print advertising, public relations and social media, and will join other Pantene Ambassadors who are fueling their hair with Pantene.”

Rousey was recently interviewed by Vogue about her partnership with Pantene:

“What was your reaction when you heard the news about the Pantene contract?
I called all my sisters because we used to literally go to war over conditioner, and I was like, “Conditioner forever for everyone!” Then I was just super-stoked: “Wow, I’ve got Pantene-level hair!” I felt very proud.

What is your first memory of Pantene? I’m thinking of those slow-motion manes in the commercials.
When we’d have a really bad blizzard in North Dakota [growing up], we only had enough water in the hot-water heater for one bathtub, and if the pipes froze, we had to take scoops of snow and heat them up on the stove and throw the boiling water into the bathtub. So me, my sisters, and my mom, we would all end up sharing one bath. None of us are morning people, so it was like, the first one up gets the fresh water, and the last one to get out of bed gets half-Pantene, half-water [laughs].

Are you a frequent hair-washer?
I didn’t used to be. I work out like 11 times a week—that’s 11 showers a week—and I would probably shampoo once or twice. I always compare it to saving the good shave: You kind of let it go, so that you can have that one good day and you’d time it for date night. Now that Pantene has changed their formula to put nutrients into your hair, I shampoo every single time now. This is actually the product I have been waiting for for years.”
