Royce Gracie and R. Lee Ermey shootout to raise $50K for Young Marines

UFC Hall of Famer and mixed martial arts legend Royce Gracie took part in an annual shooting event that resulted in gun manufacturer GLOCK Inc., donating $50,000 to the Young Marines Program.

Gracie competed against actor and film legend R. Lee Ermey at the 2016 GLOCK Annual Shoot & Gunny Challenge XII hosted by GLOCK and the GLOCK Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF).

The event was held Sepember 23-25 at the Griffin Gun Club in Griffin, Georgia.

The GLOCK Annual Shoot & Gunny Challenge is the most highly-attended action pistol shooting match in the world. This year marked another record year with 1,648 entries.

This year A.J. Ervin, a first time Gunny Challenge competitor, beat 18 Matchmeisters for the 2016 GSSF Cup.

What is the Young Marines Program?

The Young Marines is a national non-profit 501c(3) youth education and service program for boys and girls, age eight through the completion of high school.

“GLOCK helps to develop the future of our nation through helping to keep kids on the path for success through positive peer environment,” said the Young Marines National Executive Director, Col. Bill Davis USMC (Ret).

Davis was joined by Board of Directors Member, Sergeant Major H. Gene Overstreet USMC (Ret) in gratefully accepting the check on behalf of the Young Marines.

“The program is focused on leadership, good citizenship and a healthy, drug free lifestyle and GLOCK has been a strong and long term partner in helping to achieve those goals,” said Davis.

The program will use the donation to help fund their National Leadership Academy, which over 250 young men and women from all over the country attend for one or two weeks a year.

Presenting the check to the Young Marines was Josh Dorsey, Vice President at GLOCK.

“The Young Marines is an organization focused on developing character in the young men and women of our Nation,” said Dorsey, who spent 20 years in the United States Marine Corps.

“GLOCK is excited to support the program’s mission in developing the mental, moral and physical character of today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders.”
