Tickets for WSOF 17: Shields vs. Foster on Sale Friday

After circling around one another for the last several years, two of the world’s most decorated welterweight (170 pounds) Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) superstars and submission experts – Jake Shields (30-7-1, 1 NC) of San Francisco, Calif. and Brian Foster (22-6) of Sallisaw, Okla. – will finally square off in a high-stakes World Series of Fighting 17 (www.wsof.com) main event, live on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN), as well as in over 100 countries worldwide, from The AXIS Powered by Monster at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, on Saturday, Jan. 17.

Priced from $29.99, tickets for “WSOF 17: Shields vs. Foster” go on sale Friday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. PST at Ticketmaster.com and WSOF.com.

“We are thrilled to bring in the New Year with an incredible showdown between two of the world’s top Mixed Martial Artists,” said WSOF President, six-time world kickboxing champion and two-time Hall of Famer Ray Sefo.

“This is a matchup that MMA fans have been anticipating for quite some time,” continued Sefo, “so to be able to deliver it in the fight capital of the world, at a venue that is part of one of the most historic fight destinations in history in Caesars Entertainment, makes the magnitude of this matchup that much bigger.”

Together, Shields and Foster, have within recent years faced and defeated four of the current top 10 ranked MMA superstars in the sport’s 170-pound weight division.

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Cesar Gracie, Shields is coming off a dominant first-round submission (rear-naked choke) victory over Canadian powerhouse Ryan Ford on Oct. 11.

Amongst his numerous conquests of world-class opponents, Shields boasts a stunning first-round submission (guillotine choke) of “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler, the current UFC Champion and No. 1-ranked welterweight in the world, as well as back-to-back wins over the current No. 4-ranked Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia, the current No. 8-ranked welterweight in the world, according to Fight Matrix.

Shields’ long list of memorable performances in the cage also include a shocking, unanimous decision upset of former world champion and all-time great Dan Henderson as well as a unanimous decision over Jason “Mayhem” Miller, a pair of wins that entertained over eight million live network television viewers in primetime.

Foster, a ferocious finisher who has earned 20 of his 22 career wins by way of (T)KO or submission, will put on the line a four-fight winning streak that began on July 27, 2013 with a crushing, second round (:43) KO (punch) of James Wood.

Like Shields, Foster has beaten a host of rival MMA icons, including Matt Brown, the current No. 9-ranked welterweight in the world, whom Foster submitted with a guillotine choke in the second round (2:11) on Nov. 20, 2010.

In his last start on May 16, Foster put forth a powerful performance and stunted fellow submission ace Gilbert Smith’s three-fight winning streak.

Additional matchups for “WSOF 17: Shields vs. Foster” will be announced soon.
