Tis’ the Season – WCC fighter Shane Wilson to donate ticket commission to charity

Tis’ the season for giving and in keeping with the holiday spirit and traditions what better way to give back to your local community than for a fighter to contribute his ticket commission to charity?

Shane Wilson will be making his amateur mixed martial arts debut this Saturday, Dec. 6 at World Cagefighting Championships (WCC) XII in Lancaster, Pa.

Amateur fighters do not get paid for their fights but they do earn a commission based on the number of tickets they are able to sell. In a time when there is much scrunity on the pay scale that mixed martial artists earn compared to boxers or other athletes it is even more rewarding to know that a young man is willing to literally get punched in the face, not get paid for it, and then donate the little money he did earn based on how many people he brought to the show, to charity.

WCC matchmaker Helen Locura posted praise for Wilson via Facebook

“I LOVE when fighters give back!! World Cagefighting Championships fighter Shane Wilson will be donating his ticket commission to the Clare House in Lancaster, Pa. The Clare House is a home for woman and children to help provide them the tools to succeed and live an independent and positive life!! We will also be collecting new unwrapped small toys and gift items that Shane will be delivering to the residents for the holidays at Clare House. Please contact Shane for tickets and if possible bring a small unwrapped gift to donate next SATURDAY at WCC XII at the Lancaster Host Resort & Conference Center.”

Wilson who trains at Gracie 717, will fight Anthony Ferguson in what will also be his debut fight.

“The way it came about was I was thinking about what I was going to do with my commission and it was all on stuff I didn’t really need and I started to think back two years ago when I could barely keep up with my bills and try to have a good Christmas for my kids and I figured I would try to help some people less fortunate,” Wilson said.

“I started to train to fight in a cage not to be in the UFC or anything like that I truly wanted to try something this physically demanding and for the experience…… Since I’ve started to train for a cage fight I quit smoking and chewing tobacco lost weight (still plenty of more to go) so this sport has definitely given me positive things so the money isn’t really important to me,” he said.

As of right now it is projected that Wilson will be donating anywhere from $250 to $450 to the Clare House and since word has gotten out fighters and fans alike will also be bringing toys to the event.
