UFC 182 Jones vs. Cormier Weigh-in Results

UFC 182 Results: Jones vs. Cormier

The much anticipated UFC light heavyweight title bout between champion Jon “Bones” Jones and number one contender, Daniel Cormier finally came to a head The two fighters who have been at each other’s throats for the past six months met tonight in the main event of UFC 182.

The fight card began what is arguably the busiest month for the UFC, holding four major fight cards.  UFC 182 took place at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.p.m. PT.

Jones (20-1) successfully defended the title which he won from Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in 2011 for the eighth time.

Cormier (15-0) has already beat two former UFC heavyweight champions in Josh Barnett and Frank Mir, however neither were champions at the time.  If Cormier had won the title from Jones he could arguably rise to the top of the pound-for-pound best list.

But that did not come to fruition.  Cormier won one of five rounds and was taken down several times.  He had never been taken down before this fight.

The two did not face each other during their face off after weigh-ins yesterday.  Instead they turned opposite one another and then argued backstage at the fighter rules meeting.  In the post fight interview Jones said that his discomfort for Cormier was still true.  A true grudge match.

The first four fights on the pay-per-view portion of the card would go to the judges’ scorecards with Donald Cerrone, Hector Lombard, Kyoji Horiguchi, and Brad Tavares all getting their hands raised.

Possible KO of the Year

It may only be January 3 and the first UFC fight card of the year but Philadelphia’s Paul Felder may be an early contender as he nearly took Danny Castillo’s head off with a spinning backfist that made Shonnie Carter – Matt Serra look amateur.

During the FOX Sports prelims it was announced that Anthony Pettis will defend his lightweight title against Rafael dos Anjos on March 15 in Dallas, Texas.
